God is My Dwelling Place
If you read the words of Moses' Prayer (which was probably also a song), you will see how the lyrics are thoroughly inspired by his poetic verses. God's unique name Adonai Maon is somewhat mysterious, but to me it brought a sense of realization that everything, including us, all things come from him and to him they return. He is our home, our dwelling place. During the days of the Omer count, I meditated on Psalm 90, and this is how this song that speaks of learning how to count our days was born.
Lyrics:
Before mountains were born, and the world had not yet grown.
You didn't suddenly appear, You were a shelter, always near.
Your design, we try discern, dust to dust, all men return.
Eternal Master, always known as our God and as our home.
Dwelling place - אֲדֹנָי מָעוֹן
Heart of wisdom we put on.
God, unchanging age to age,
Teach us how to number days.
אֲדֹנָי מָעוֹן אַתָּה
וּמֵעוֹלָם עַד־עוֹלָם
לִמְנוֹת יָמֵינוּ כֵּן הוֹדַע
וְנָבִא לְבַב חָכְמָה
Grass rises up with morning light; Men swept away in sleep of night.
Beauty lasting through the day; by the evening blossom fades.
From ages past, future untold, my God endures, standing bold.
A thousand years in your light is like a whisper passing by.
For seventy, eighty years yet, we strive to live without regret.
Before You secret sins revealed, nothing in your sight concealed.
Weeks of sorrow we’ve known, depart tomorrow after dawn.
Then rich mercy comes anew and our hearts rejoice in You.
