"1 Enoch, The Book of Watchers: New Translation" By Pinchas Shir

The Book of Enoch is a well-known Jewish composition from the Second Temple era. Older English translations of 1 Enoch (Ethiopic Enoch) are in the Public Domain and widely available online for free. The problem is that the narratives of "The Book of Watchers" are ensconced in old English, which could make them a challenging read. My new translation presents the ancient text of 1 Enoch in modern, polished, and easy-to-read English. The primary goal of this new translation was to produce the text of Enoch accessible to an average modern reader, intelligible, and aesthetically enjoyable. Since most Enoch scholars agree that the book was originally composed in Hebrew or Aramaic, my new translation seeks to convey the sense of reading a Semitic text by periodically using Hebrew alongside English.
