The gospels are filled with ancient rabbinic theological teachings. The reason is simple, Jesus was a Rabbi, a first-century teacher of Torah. The more people understand this, the more they open a door to the depth of his words in their true context. Most of the people with whom he interacted in his day-to-day life had some exposure to those ways of thinking. Unfortunately, many modern Bible readers do not. Sadly, long ago, Christians have cut ties with Jews and along with that lost valuable historical and theological points of reference for the very gospel teachings they admire and treasure.
