Losing God's Shadow
In Numbers, we encounter a story of a report brought back to the Israelite community. Ten investigators of the Land of Promise were pessimistic about conquering Canaan. The land was prosperous and fertile, but the enemy was too mighty to defeat. Out of ten, only two investigators believed that God would give Israel victory, despite the fact that the Canaanites appeared to be formidable enemies. A contention broke out in the camp. A disagreement, deep disappointment set in, a descent, and even threats of violence. People were angry that they had left Egypt, and now the prospects of them settling in Canaan looked unlikely.
