Galatians in Anatolian Context: Part Two (~3h)

Galatians in Anatolian Context: Part Two (~3h)

In Part One of my lectures on the Letter of Galatians, I explained that reading a very personal message in light of another, not entirely related, message to a different community altogether is not the brightest idea. But what historical and cultural context should the readers of Galatians have in mind as they read? This is where having a better understanding of where the local populations in Anatolia came from, religiously and culturally, helps a lot. When Paul came to Galatia, they were not atheists, but devout pagans with sophisticated beliefs. Rabbi Shaul approached them with grace but used their peculiar beliefs and theological ideas in his persuasive rhetoric as he appealed for reason. Seeing this will change the way one understands his words.
