Cleansing by Fire
Have you ever seen a sign that simply says "Jesus is Coming"? My wife pointed out a better one for me as we traveled together recently. It read, "Jesus is coming, clear your browser history!" Even in modern times, purity is a tangible concern. Naturally, we have come up with new creative ways of defiling ourselves, but in the end, our mistakes, our messes, and our temptations have not changed that much, and the Torah speaks loudly to us thousands of years later. In our weekly reading, we observe Eleazar directing the Israelite army to go through a purification ritual in Num 31:21-24 Why? Because they engaged in war with idolatrous Midianites.
