Betrayal and Love

Betrayal and Love

In our reading from the Prophets, Hosea speaks of his deep love for Israel and his people. But the book is not at all simple. Hashem deliberately asked the prophet to marry a wayward and promiscuous woman so that Hosea would understand how God felt betrayed in his love and care for Israel. As a prophet, Hosea is quite dramatic as he speaks on God’s behalf from a place of personal pain and understanding. And yet, despite the unfaithfulness that is compared to marital betrayal, God still loves his people.
