Being It

A witness, or a testimony exists to bare the facts of something. It is connected to the idea of empirical accounting, a report, and an audit, a story one can see for himself and decide. Sometimes we need a cloud of witnesses. All the items in the Mishkan (Tabernacle): the altar, the water basin, Aaron’s clothes, the jewels, gold, all people, sacrifices, and rituals that were to take place inside the Tabernacle were visible depictions, representations of something that is not visible. They are the way they are because they are witnesses, earthly representations of the kind of relationship that Hashem established with Israel.
